Meg Johnson Band to perform at the Hudson Valley Wine & Food Fest
The Hudson Valley Wine & Food Fest is happy to have returning for their fifth year at the Fest, the Meg Johnson Band . Meg Johnson and her band will be featured performers on both Saturday and Sunday at the festival. Every year I get lots of folks coming up to me asking “Who is that band? They’re great!”. The Meg Johnson Band plays a mix of acoustic alternative and folk rock and their sound just seems to suit a sunny afternoon, sipping wine in the sunshine at the Greig Farm. Look around and you might catch folks dancing to the groove, too.
The Meg Johnson Band released its first full-length CD, “Between You and the Golden Sun”, on Fluke Records, LLC in 2004. Featuring the brilliant performances of Stephen Mayone (Chris Delmhorst) on Electric Guitar and Mandolin, Kevin Maul (Burns sisters, Robin and Linda Williams) on Steel Guitar and Dobro, Doug Marcus (Harmony Grits) on Upright Bass, Eric Parker (Bonnie Raitt, Joe Cocker) on Drums and Bob Resnick (Folding Sky) on Percussion,
“Between You and the Golden Sun” boasts a fresh approach to music rooted in the American folk-rock tradition. The song “One More Time” is currently featured on WMVY Martha’s Vineyard’s “Fresh Produce” sampler. At least 7 out of the 11 songs on the disc have been featured on radio playlists on stations in the northeast as well as many internet streams.
You may have heard Meg’s singing on The Breakfast’s “Deuce” or more recently on Tom Pacheco’s latest release, “Rebel Spring” – produced by Jim Weider of The Band. While living in New Haven and New York City in the mid 90’s, She and partner Kyle Esposito co-fronted Fourth House, Releasing the CD “The Flood” and sharing stages with the likes of Government Mule and God Street Wine.
The Meg Johnson Band began taking shape after relocating to Woodstock and writing songs while playing in a small acoustic format. They released their first EP “Midwest” in 2000. With the release of the “Jones” EP in early 2003, the band began performing shows featuring songs co-written by Meg and Kyle. Live, the band showcases the virtuosity of the players as well as the band as a whole while staying true to the songs.
